9:30 a.m. Thursday: Fire department personnel from Clay and surrounding areas are pumping thousands of gallons of water to keep reserve tanks at Vinland Energy cool as the fire continues to burn. A one-mile radius of the Gabbard's Fork plant was evacuated in the early morning hours, and officials hope those residents can return to their homes by this afternoon.

According to county judge-executive Tommy Harmon, rumors of more evacuations are invalid.

"We do not anticipate any further evacuations at this time," Harmon said. "We have emergency personnel from several counties assisting in this incident."

Emergency shelters were opened at Clay Community Center at Greenbriar and Manchester Elementary.

Laurel Creek Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center residents were also evacuated to medical facilities in the area.
