Freedom House Seeks Volunteers to Support Mothers in Recovery
May 06, 2025

Freedom House, a program operated by Volunteers of America Mid-States in Manchester, is calling on the community for help. The organization is currently seeking volunteers to support its efforts in caring for the children of mothers undergoing treatment for substance use disorder.
Located at 8467 North Highway 421, Freedom House provides a comprehensive treatment program that includes education, resources, and therapy sessions designed to help mothers rebuild their lives. While the mothers participate in recovery programs, volunteers are needed to provide a safe and engaging environment for their children.
Volunteers can make a difference in a variety of ways, including holding infants, reading books, helping with homework, leading craft projects, playing board games, and facilitating fun activities like sing-alongs, dancing, and exercise. The program also welcomes volunteers to lead puzzles and other enriching tasks for children of all ages.
“This is a powerful way for the community to support families who are working hard to overcome challenges,” said Nikki Couch, Peer Support Supervisor at Freedom House. “Your time and care can have a lasting impact.”
Those interested in volunteering can contact Nikki Couch at NikkiC@voamid.org or Kelsey Jones, Alumni Coordinator, at KelseyJ@voamid.org. For more information, visit voamid.org or call (606) 658-9240.
A healthy Clay County requires great community news.
