Man Arrested After Trying to Sell Stolen Rocking Chairs in Pharmacy Drive-Thru for $25 Each

MANCHESTER, Ky. — If you were hoping to snag a handmade rocking chair for a bargain on Thursday, the pharmacy drive-thru at Frog Level was — briefly — the hottest furniture outlet in town.

Terry Jones, 59, of Charlie Sizemore Road, was arrested June 12 and charged with theft by unlawful taking over $500 and public intoxication after police say he made a bold (and bizarre) attempt to offload stolen merchandise at a less-than-conventional marketplace.

According to Officers Jarrod Smith and Assistant Manchester City Police Chief Antonio Dodson, authorities responded to a theft complaint at the Volunteers of America facility. Four handmade wooden rocking chairs, each valued at $250, had mysteriously vanished.

It didn’t take long to track down the suspect — or the chairs.

“We pulled up the camera footage and found him just down the road at the pharmacy,” said Dodson. “He had all four rocking chairs in the drive-thru lane, trying to sell them for 25 bucks apiece like it was a Blue Light Special.”

Jones reportedly admitted to the rocking caper and told officers he’d consumed several alcoholic beverages and taken medication before the incident — a mix that, apparently, led to a rocking bad idea.

The chairs were safely returned to their rightful home at VOA. Jones, however, got a different kind of seat — a ride straight to the Clay County Detention Center.
