MANCHESTER, Ky. — The City of Manchester has secured $2 million in state funding to support major upgrades to its water treatment facility and river pump system, thanks to the efforts of Senate President Robert Stivers and State Representative Derek Lewis.

City officials expressed their appreciation for the legislators’ work in securing the funding, calling it a vital step toward ensuring reliable infrastructure that can support Clay County’s future growth.

“The City of Manchester is pleased to acknowledge the efforts of Senate President Stivers and Representative Lewis in allocating $2 million to address essential improvements to our water system,” the city said in a statement.

The funding will go toward long-needed upgrades at the city’s water treatment plant and improvements to river pump stations, which play a key role in delivering clean water to homes and businesses throughout the region.

City Supervisor Mike White and Water Plant Supervisor Josh Murphy were also recognized for their ongoing commitment to Manchester’s utility systems. According to city officials, both have worked closely with Mayor Steve Collins to assess needs and begin planning for the infrastructure improvements.

Mayor Collins has been working hand-in-hand with engineers to develop a comprehensive strategy for the upgrades. He emphasized the importance of taking a proactive approach to maintain and modernize the systems that serve as the backbone of the city’s daily operations.

“This investment will help ensure that our infrastructure can meet the demands of a growing community while protecting public health and water quality,” Collins said.

The project is expected to move forward in phases as engineering plans are finalized and implementation begins. City leaders are hopeful that this funding will mark the beginning of broader improvements aimed at strengthening public utilities and promoting long-term development in the region.
