Maybe Christmas is More?

by By Melissa Garrison

“Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more.”

The Grinch, although greedy and green, taught us a life lesson about Christmas.

We can also learn a lesson about opening our ears to God. The Grinch’s heart was cold and too small. Much like our own, with dead and dark places.

When we are enslaved to sin, we can’t possibly love God. And the Grinch can not be loved by The Who’s.

The reason: his heart was 2 sizes too small. But all of a sudden, like ourselves when we come to know Jesus, his heart grew three sizes in one day! No longer a slave to the darkness that controlled him.

The Grinch was now able to love. When we receive a new heart, we are also given a new identity.

When the Grinch came down the hill with all of the Who’s Christmas… they didn’t hold a grudge. When he shows up- he is given a new record. Before salvation, we were separated from God.

As the Grinch was sour and didn’t want to mingle with the Who’s. After he got a new heart, the Grinch found himself carving the roast beef for dinner! He was accepted, after all. Imagine his life after this new found joy. Just as we are after becoming one with God.

It may take time to realize that our joy really comes from The Lord. During this Christmas season, remember, Christmas really is so much more. It is a time to recognize our savior has been born.

Though much of what we have been taught about Christmas is merely about a fun holiday. It is surely a time to recognize the true reason we celebrate. Christmas is about Jesus coming to a sinful world and cleaning us up. He was born for just that.

“And then the true meaning of Christmas came through, and the Grinch found the strength of ten Grinches plus two.” ― The Grinch
