Volunteers of America Mid-States (VOA) Recovery Community Center (RCC) offered a fun and sober space for families and friends to watch Super Bowl LX together!
The historic game is one of the largest consumption days of the year in the U.S., which can be challenging for football fans in recovery. VOA RCC recognized this and decided to host their own Super Bowl party to show you can enjoy football while sober.
“When I first got clean, I recall thinking the fun was over, but it’s not,” said Kisha Sibert, Lead Recovery Support Technician at VOA RCC. “That’s why events like the Super Bowl party are important. It shows others there is still a lot of fun to be had. These gatherings show recovery is about connection, laughter, and building a supportive community together while having fun.”
Individuals and families came together to watch the Seattle Seahawks take down the New England Patriots. They enjoyed delicious food, fun games, and great conversation.
VOA RCC strives to be a community resource for education, information, support, and socialization for those in recovery and their family and friends.
The program is staffed by individuals in recovery and focuses on Peer Recovery Support Services to assist in removing barriers and providing resources to those who seek long-term sobriety. RCC also focuses on hosting fun events and opportunities for its members to gather, connect, and motivate each other as they continue their recovery journeys.
“It’s always good to enjoy clean, sober fun with others who have a common goal,” said Wesley Wagers, a long-time RCC member.
VOA RCC supports individuals in recovery, but they encourage the community to stop in and join the fun. Along with the Super Bowl, the program celebrates other holidays with fun parties, summer cookouts, and opportunities for their members and the community to gather and connect.
