As students head back to the classroom, children at VOA Mid-States' Freedom House in Burning Springs are doing so with confidence, thanks to the incredible generosity of our community. VOA’s Back to School campaign helps the children they serve start the school year prepared and ready to learn.
Freedom House is VOA’s residential recovery program for pregnant and parenting women working to overcome addiction and create new, hopeful lives for their families. Christy entered the program in June with her kids, Trenton (12), Aubrey (9), Brianna (8), and Kylie (7). With VOA’s support, Christy has been able to achieve sobriety and learn the skills she needs to become a successful, sober parent.
Last week, Trenton, Aubrey, Brianna, and Kylie started 7th, 4th, 3rd, and 2nd grades ready for success thanks to VOA’s Back to School campaign. Generous community members donated pencils, notebooks, clothes, backpacks, and other essential supplies helping Christy and other Freedom House moms focus on their recovery journeys instead of worrying about how to provide everything their children need for the new school year.
While the first day of school is an important milestone, the needs do not end there. Throughout the year, children in VOA’s programs continue to need school supplies, and other essentials. There is still time to make a difference by supporting the Back to School campaign and helping local kids thrive all year long.
