MANCHESTER, Ky. – Three tough games lie ahead for the Lady Tigers this week as the new year begins. Clay County will square off with two in region foes, as they meet Bell County and rival North Laurel, while also meeting Buckhorn to round things out. Let’s dive into what should be a week filled with big games for the Lady Tigers.
Clay County will meet Bell County on Friday night, January 2nd at Bell County. The Lady Bobcats (10-1) are one of the best teams in the 13th region and their record shows why, only falling to Paintsville in their lone loss this season. Led by Kairi Lamb’s 20ppg, the Lady Bobcats are in contention for a 13th region title and a win over them would be big for the Lady Tigers. Tip-off is set for 7:30PM, Friday, January 2nd at Bell County High School.
Saturday, January 3rd the Lady Tigers will travel to Buckhorn for an early afternoon matchup. Buckhorn is much improved, as they sit at 7-5 this season thus far. They are led by Haylee Blank’s 17ppg, as well as Greenlee Deaton’s 14ppg, and Lyla Wooten’s 10ppg. It’s safe to say that this isn’t the Buckhorn you’re used to seeing in recent years, as they are playing well this year. Clay County will have to wake up ready to go, or the Lady Wildcats could give them an early Saturday surprise. Tip is set for 12:15PM, Saturday, January 3rd at Buckhorn.
The Lady Tigers will close out this week of coverage with a massive Tuesday night matchup in London as they meet their biggest rival, the North Laurel Lady Jaguars. North currently has only one loss and are the overwhelming favorite in the 13th Region yet again. They are led by junior forward Mariella Claybrook, who already has multiple college offers and is widely viewed as a top player in all Southeast Kentucky. If Clay County wants to win, she is the player you stop. Tip is set for 7:30PM, Tuesday, January 6th at North Laurel High School.
