MANCHESTER — A Clay County woman was killed Tuesday afternoon in a motorcycle crash on the Hal Rogers Parkway, according to Kentucky State Police.
The collision occurred around 3 p.m. March 31 near the 35-mile marker eastbound, just outside Manchester.
According to Kentucky State Police Post 11 in London, a 2022 Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by Sam K. Minton, 43, of Manchester, was traveling eastbound when he lost control and struck a guardrail along the right shoulder of the roadway.
Minton was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. He was treated at the scene by Clay County EMS before being airlifted by AirEvac to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
A passenger on the motorcycle, Shelly M. Minton, 46, of Manchester, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:57 p.m. by Clay County Coroner Jason Abner. Authorities said she was also not wearing a helmet.
State police reported that next of kin has been notified.
Preliminary findings indicate that drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors in the crash; however, toxicology results are pending.
The investigation is being led by KSP Detective Shane Bowling, who is conducting an accident reconstruction. He was assisted at the scene by additional KSP personnel, Big Creek Fire Department, Clay County EMS, the Clay County Coroner’s Office and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation remains ongoing.
