Mind Your Own Business and Focus on Your Own Success

Posted

Hello friends! I hope you’re doing well. As I write this, I’m sitting in an airport with plenty of time to think, and one thing keeps coming to mind.

Why are so many people so concerned with what everyone else is doing?

It seems like one of the favorite pastimes around here is worrying about someone else’s paycheck, business, or success. The truth is, if a person earns their money legally and honestly, it’s really nobody else’s concern. Instead of celebrating someone who has worked hard or taken a risk, too many people immediately start questioning what they make or trying to tear them down.

Jealousy and envy are dangerous things. They don’t build communities—they divide them.

One problem I see is that some people believe everyone should settle for the bare minimum. That mindset holds everyone back. Whether you’re running a business, leading an organization, or managing employees, you generally get what you pay for. If you expect exceptional work, you have to be willing to reward exceptional people. Talented individuals have value, and if we refuse to recognize that, someone else will.

Our community should be encouraging success, not criticizing it.

Think about the advice many of us heard growing up: mind your own business, treat people with respect, enjoy your life, and don't spend your time trying to impress or please everyone else. Those lessons are just as true today as they were decades ago.

Imagine how much happier—and more successful—we could all be if we invested as much energy into improving our own lives as we do talking about someone else's. Spend your time learning a new skill, starting a business, helping your neighbor, or chasing a goal you've always wanted to accomplish. That effort will pay far greater dividends than worrying about what someone else has.

Personally, I don't lose sleep over what people say about me. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. What bothers me is seeing people intentionally try to make someone else's life more difficult simply because they can't stand to see them succeed.

Life is too short for that.

Let's do better. Support one another. Celebrate hard work. Respect success, even when it belongs to someone else. And if someone else's accomplishments motivate you, let them inspire you instead of making you bitter.

At the end of the day, the only life you can truly improve is your own.

Much love, Manchester!
