Hello friends! As I’m writing this, there’s a beautiful blanket of snow on the ground. It’s one of my favorite times of the year. The air feels fresh, the scenery is peaceful, and I haven’t seen a wasp in two weeks — thank God for that!
But while winter has its charm, let’s take a moment to think back to warmer days and one of the biggest drivers of tourism in our county — music.
Clay County has seen tremendous growth and success in what’s known as music tourism. You might be wondering, what exactly does that mean? According to the Travel Alliance Partnership Magazine,
“Music tourism—where fans travel to experience concerts, festivals, and music-related landmarks—has transformed into a significant driver of travel. More than just a trend, music tourism is reshaping local economies and fueling tourism growth. Recently, the American Music Tourism Act was introduced to further bolster this sector, recognizing its power to draw visitors, stimulate spending, and support community businesses. By encouraging travel specifically for music-related experiences, this movement is set to bring even greater economic benefits to destinations across the U.S.”
That’s a big deal — and it’s something we’re living right here in Manchester and Clay County. Every concert, festival, and jam session we host not only entertains but also strengthens our local economy. From small-town gatherings to major outdoor events, music has become one of our greatest ambassadors, inviting visitors to experience our culture, our people, and our pride.
Nationally, the music tourism market is expected to reach an incredible $13.8 billion next year — and that number just keeps growing. It’s proof of how powerful music truly is, not just as entertainment but as an economic engine.
Here at home, we’ve seen firsthand how a good song and a strong sense of community can bring people together. Whether it’s the Manchester Music Festival, live performances downtown, or local artists sharing their talents, our sound is becoming part of something much larger — a Kentucky story that resonates far beyond our hills.
So as the snow falls and the guitars rest for winter, let’s look ahead to spring and summer with excitement. Our community has found its rhythm, and it’s one worth celebrating.
Much love, Manchester!
