ONEIDA, Ky. — A weekend of mud racing, trail riding, camping and outdoor activities is coming to Oneida Sept. 11-13 as Oneida Outdoors of Clay County hosts “Newfound in Oneida, KY.”

Activities will begin Friday with camping and setup, trail riding, fishing and opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Events will continue throughout the weekend with primitive camping available beside the South Fork River, along with access to outlaw trail riding and Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway-connected trails.

The main event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, when mud pit races begin at 4:30 p.m.

Racing will include ATV classes, dirt bikes, Power Wheels and a foot race, along with other competitions. Organizers are encouraging families to bring children and their Power Wheels to participate in the mud.

A hog roast will also be held Saturday, featuring pork with soup beans and cornbread for $10 per plate.

Other weekend activities include fishing and opportunities for hill climbing and extended trail riding.

Primitive camping will cost $20, spectator admission is $10 and race entry is $30. Power Wheels participation is free. Campground and “Mudslinging” T-shirts will also be available for $20.

Backstreet Campground No. 1 in Oneida has a limited number of sites with full hookups remaining and is located approximately two miles from Backstreet Campground No. 2.

Organizers said the event is being hosted with an emphasis on providing family-friendly outdoor recreation while showcasing the Oneida area.

“We’re just a group of people who love the outdoors and want to bring family-friendly fun to this beautiful county we live in,” organizers stated in promotional material.

Oneida Outdoors of Clay County is also seeking sponsors for the event, with proceeds planned to help purchase lights and support next year’s race.

The weekend is being promoted under the slogan, “Come ride. Come race. Come camp. Come get muddy!”
