Each year for St. Patrick’s Day, my husband’s family has a “Green Party.” Yes, we have green eggs—green everything, pretty much—and it is so much fun.
Traditions are something I truly love. There’s comfort in knowing that when a certain time of year comes around, we’ll be celebrating in a certain way. This year, we gathered at my husband’s family’s catfish ponds. The kids played and fished, while the adults ate and caught up with one another.
I’ve found that time together is incredibly important.
The last holiday I celebrated with my son before he passed away was the Fourth of July. I will forever be thankful that he met us at the park for fireworks. It wasn’t anything fancy—but it was time together, and that’s what matters most.
My son always thought it was strange that green was my favorite color. Then he dated a girl whose favorite color was also green, and he thought the two of us were the only people in the world who could like that color. You just had to know him.
These days, my eyes are drawn to green more than ever. I’m so thankful for green grass and budding trees. My allergies may disagree, but just seeing color again means a lot. It feels like we’ve had one difficult thing after another lately—a lot of sadness. But spring reminds us of something important: new life and new growth. And that is something we can all appreciate.
I think we could all learn something from the color green.
Green symbolizes nature, growth, renewal, harmony, and safety. It’s known as one of the most restful colors for the human eye, often associated with healing and relaxation. It can also represent wealth, fertility, and sometimes even envy—interesting, right?
Spiritually, green represents growth, renewal, and vitality. It’s connected to the heart—healing and compassion—and serves as a bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds. It symbolizes hope, balance, and restoration.
(All of this, of course, according to Google.)
I recently painted my bedroom a soft sage green, and I have to say—I’m really glad I did.
March Madness is everywhere you look and everything you hear right now. Both men and women are fully engaged. Me? Not so much. But if you are, I hope your teams do well.
I also hope your allergies behave themselves.
And if you have a March birthday, I hope you get a little “green.”
As the weather warms up, motorcycles will be out on the highways. Please be mindful and watch for them—we don’t always see them as easily as we should.
Take some time to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. A lack of vitamin D during the winter months can really take a toll on us. It’s time to shake things up and soak in some sunlight.
Happy March to you all!
“Winds of March, we welcome you,
There is work for you to do.
Work and play and blow all day,
Blow the winter wind away.” – Unknown
