MANCHESTER, Ky. – It’s all about the 49th District this week for Clay County, as Coach Jones and the team will be locked in on two close-to-home matchups. The Tigers will hit the road to face 49th District rivals North Laurel and OBI to bring in the new year. Clay County (8-4) could swing a big chunk of momentum their way if they can bring home both wins.
The Tigers will meet North Laurel on Friday, January 2nd at North Laurel High School. The Jaguars are off to yet another strong start and led by Ryan Davidson, a 6’6 forward who can score at all three levels and poses trouble for any defense he faces. Averaging 19 per game, he’s widely viewed as a frontrunner for 13th Region POTY. Jordan Rawlings, Cooper Elza and Corey Cunagin also present challenges with athleticism and size, as the Jaguars can be all over you in a hurry.
This is one of the biggest matchups every year for the Tigers and this season is no different. Both teams want nothing more than to sweep the other in the regular season, and postseason, so it’s very safe to say that the stakes are high. Tip off will be at 7:30PM on Friday, January 2nd at NLHS.
Clay County will meet Oneida Baptist the following Monday, January 5th at OBI for an in-county matchup. The Mountaineers are now led by Coach Jared Gray, and they’ve won three games thus far this season. Currently riding a five-game losing streak, OBI will look to shift their season against the Tigers and try to bring in a huge home win. They are led by Skyler Roberts 14ppg, and Tommy Branstutter’s 13ppg. This team has size and speed, so the Tigers will no doubt be taking them very seriously.
Tip-off is set for 7:30PM, Monday, January 5th at Oneida Baptist Institute.
