MANCHESTER, Ky. – At long last, the brand-new Tiger Stadium was debuted on Thursday, April 2nd. Clay County opened it with a strong 14-1 victory over the visiting Owsley County Owls, capping off a milestone day for the Tiger Baseball program.
For many, the opening of this field has been discussed long before construction ever began. “It’s been a long time coming,” said a smiling Jason Smith, head coach of the Tigers. We made so many good memories at Big Red Campbell Field, and we look forward to making many more here at the new stadium. I’m just so happy for these kids that they get to have something so incredible.”
The Tigers relied on a keen eye in the batter’s box, reaching base on 10 walks, while posting four hits in the victory as well. Talan Marcum and John Smith both had a solid day at the plate, with Marcum going 2-2 with an RBI and run scored, while Smith added two hits and three RBI’s, scoring three runs himself. Catcher Mason Roark clubbed three RBI’s as well.
On the mound, a trio of Tigers shut down the Owls. Marcum, Kaden Grubb and Connor Caplinger stymied the Owl offense, allowing only two hits while striking out eight.
Talan Marcum 2-2, John Smith 2-3.
