Spring break will be extended. Clay County's Superintendent William Sexton announced that students' spring break will be extended by one day due to the solar eclipse.

As a result, classes will be canceled on Monday, April 8th. Sexton explained that the eclipse would occur when the children were on buses returning home, and for safety reasons, it was decided that it was best to cancel school.

Clay County declared spring break from April 1 to 5, and classes will resume the following day, April 9th. The school year will end on May 17th.

The superintendent says the safety of students and staff is their top priority. Sexton explained that the eclipse would occur when the children return home on buses, and it is best to cancel school to ensure their safety.

“As we looked closer at the timing of the eclipse, it is going to occur when our children are going home and will be on buses,” Sexton said. “With safety as always our main concern, we thought it was best to call off school so our students and staff can view the eclipse in a safe environment.”
