Murder investigation underway

On Friday, April 5, 2024, at approximately 9:12 A.M, Kentucky State Police, Post 13, Hazard received a 911 call in reference to a shooting on GW Drive, located in the UZ community of Letcher County.

Troopers, along with medical personnel responded to the scene and located Nicholas Webb, 45, of Whitesburg, deceased from a gunshot wound. The suspected shooter, Rodney Webb, 56, of Whitesburg, was apprehended on scene a short time later.

Detectives with KSP, responded to the scene and began an investigation. Initial investigation indicated that the two were engaged in a physical altercation that escalated when Rodney Webb brandished a firearm and fired, striking Nicholas Webb. Webb was pronounced deceased on scene by the Letcher County Coroner’s office.

The victim was taken to the Medical Examiners Office in Frankfort for autopsy. Rodney Webb was placed under arrest and lodged into the Letcher County Jail. He was charged with one count of Murder and one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. This incident remains under investigation by Detective Brandon Thomas.
