April 29, 2025

WESTMORELAND, Tenn. – The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is releasing new details as the investigation continues into a school bus crash that left five Westmoreland students injured earlier this week.
According to a preliminary report from THP, the bus was traveling down Rock House Hollow Road when the driver lost control. The vehicle veered into a creek and struck a bridge, causing it to flip onto its side.
The crash resulted in "minor to moderate" injuries for five students as well as the bus driver. Nineteen students from Westmoreland Middle and High Schools were on board at the time of the incident.
Emergency personnel responded swiftly to the scene. Students not requiring immediate medical attention were transported to Bethpage Elementary School, where parents were instructed to pick them up.
THP officials noted that charges against the driver are possible, pending the outcome of their ongoing investigation.
Authorities have not released the name of the driver, and no official cause has been determined beyond the initial account of losing control on the rural roadway.
The Sumner County School District has not yet commented on the incident, but school officials say they are cooperating fully with the investigation and prioritizing support for the students and families affected.
More updates will be provided as the investigation develops.
A healthy Clay County requires great community news.
