Deputy Catches Duo Playing Hide-and-Seek with the Law
June 02, 2025
MANCHESTER — A routine traffic patrol took a comedic turn when two men tried to pull off a not-so-smooth disappearing act on KY 80.
Deputy Jordan Duncil was parked along the highway monitoring traffic when he saw a vehicle suddenly slam on the brakes, veer off the road, and creep behind a nearby building. Before the cruiser could blink, two men bolted from the car and took off on foot.
Smelling something suspicious — and not buying their vanishing act — Deputy Duncil gave chase. It didn’t take long before the game of hide-and-seek came to an end. The two men were found crouched in a bush behind the building, evidently hoping their camouflage skills would outmatch law enforcement training.
They didn’t.
John Smith, 57, of Manchester and Henry Smith, 45, of Corbin were both arrested and charged with fleeing or evading police in the third degree.
No word on whether the bush provided much cover — but the Clay County Detention Center certainly will.
A healthy Clay County requires great community news.
