Woman’s Loud Stroll Through Manchester Square Ends in Arrest
June 02, 2025

MANCHESTER — A spirited walk through Manchester Square landed one local woman in hot water after her sidewalk performance caught the attention of law enforcement.
According to Clay County Sheriff Patrick Robinson, Deputy Luke Thomas was patrolling the area on May 29 when he spotted a woman strolling through a parking lot, loudly hollering and gesturing wildly with her hands—almost as if she was directing invisible traffic.
Deputy Thomas approached the woman, later identified as 37-year-old Janet Bowling of Manchester. After a brief conversation and a few telltale signs, the deputy determined that Bowling was under the influence of something stronger than just enthusiasm.
Bowling reportedly admitted to taking multiple medications, though the impromptu street show likely wasn’t part of any doctor’s orders.
She was promptly placed under arrest and charged with public intoxication of a controlled substance (excluding alcohol).
While her one-woman act didn’t win her any standing ovations, it did earn her a trip to the Clay County Detention Center.
A healthy Clay County requires great community news.
