Catherine Burns, of London, was born on March 25, 1938, in Leslie County, to the late Dale Caldwell and Sinai Browning Caldwell. She was united in marriage to Carlo Burns, who preceded her in death.
She leaves behind five loving daughters: Charlotte Brewer and husband Ted of London; Carla Treadway and husband Scott of Richmond, Kentucky; Sheila Hurd and husband Billy, and Thresa Willoughby and husband Brent, all of Manchester, Kentucky; and Lisa Hamilton and husband Todd of Georgetown, Kentucky. She is also survived by two siblings, Dale Junior Caldwell of Yeadiss, Kentucky and Bernice Britton of London; a sister-in-law, Alma Maxey; a special nephew, Paul Lynn Burns; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members and dear friends who mourn her passing.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three siblings: Willie Caldwell, Sarah Jane Binder, and Dewey Caldwell.
Catherine was a hardworking and compassionate woman who owned and operated her own restaurant and later worked as a reading aide at Hacker Elementary. Above all, she was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord deeply and was a member of Mill Street Church of Christ.
She found joy in gardening and had a remarkable gift for bringing even the weakest plants back to life with a little care and attention. Catherine was also an exceptional cook who never needed a recipe, a talented seamstress, and an accomplished crocheter. Throughout her life, she lovingly cared for her grandchildren and selflessly opened her home to family members and friends during their times of need, often bringing them into her own house so she could personally care for them.
Catherine was the kind of woman who made everyone feel like family. She was selfless, compassionate, and endlessly loving, always putting others before herself. The way she lived her life was a testimony to her faith, kindness, and servant's heart. Her example touched all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.
Catherine Burns went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the age of 88 years, 1 month, and 18 days.
