Golden Hubbard Jr., age 67, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026.
Golden was born on July 19, 1958. At just 22 years old, he married the love of his life in 1981, and in doing so, he not only became a devoted husband but also an instant father to four young children. From that day forward, he embraced his role as a protector, provider, and loving husband and father. His family quickly learned that his love was unwavering, and he dedicated his life to caring for those he loved.
A hardworking man with an unmatched work ethic, Golden was never afraid of hard work. Over the years, he worked in the tobacco fields, logged timber, and worked in the coal industry. He later drove a truck and horse trailer for Almhurst Farms, transporting horses across the country. He went on to work for Transfreight and eventually Toyota, where he retired after years of dedicated service.
Golden was known for his wonderful sense of humor. He loved playing jokes on family and friends, keeping everyone on their toes, and filling every gathering with laughter. If he teased you, it was usually his way of showing how much he cared.
One of Golden's greatest joys in life was becoming a Papaw. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to him, and he treasured every moment spent with them. He was proud of each one and loved them beyond measure.
Golden also enjoyed a good debate and was known for standing his ground. Whether sharing stories, joking with loved ones, or offering advice, he left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He will be remembered for his strength, kindness, unwavering love for his family, incredible work ethic, and generous heart. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply.
Golden was preceded in death by his parents and 3 siblings, and a son, Bruce Messer Jr., and one great-granddaughter, Brylee Mae Gill, and other loved ones who welcomed him home.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Ruby Hubbard of Manchester; his children, daughters Teresa King husband Bill Lexington Ky; Marquetta Holland husband Terry and a son Lesley Messer both of Manchester; his 11 grandchildren Rachel True, Zachary True, Amy Messer, Pamela Messer, Ashley Taylor, Korey Mullins, Audrey Herd husband Tyler, Danielle Messer, Emmalee Messer, Cohen Messer, and Maverick Messer; 14 great-grandchildren; and 3 siblings and many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory. He was a member of Hubbard Missionary Baptist Church.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing his love, laughter, and example will remain with us always.
