Margaret McPherson Patterson died on December 17, 2025, at her home in Birmingham, Alabama, after a lengthy illness and shortly after her 96th birthday. Margaret was born in Ravenna, Kentucky on December 4, 1929. She grew up in Ravenna, Irvine, and Richmond, Kentucky, and attended Georgetown College and the University of Kentucky. After her college graduation, she completed graduate studies at the University of Texas and joined the United States Women's Army Corps. She later moved to Miami, Florida, where she met her husband, George L. Patterson, Jr., who died in 1976. She later moved back to Richmond, Kentucky, then to Quincy, Florida, and eventually made Birmingham her home in 1998. In Birmingham, she was involved in numerous organizations, including Trinity Medical Center Auxiliary and Brookwood Baptist Church. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Walter Linton McPherson and Merrill Wilson McPherson, her brother Benjamin Robert McPherson, her stepdaughter Betsy Patterson Yavits, her step-grandson Travis Yavits, and her niece Joan Gail McPherson. She is survived by her sister, Dotty McPherson Greene, who lovingly cared for her throughout her illness; her stepson, George L. Patterson III and his wife Mary, and four step-grandchildren and their families; and two nephews (Rob McPherson and Stephen Greene) and three nieces (Peggy Wells, Ann Pivonka, and Sara Valenzuela) and their families. A family service will be held at a later date.
