Shirley (Cobb) Swafford, 82, of London, Kentucky passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland in Somerset, Kentucky.
She was a devoted and loving mother to Kyle, who often joked about being the favorite child, and his wife, Deanna, of London, as well as a mother to the late Walter Craig Swafford. She was a cherished sister to Trudy (Cobb) McKnight and her husband, Joe; Glenn Cobb; and Sande (Cobb) Lewis. She was a loving sister-in-law to Jeannie Rice and husband Carl Ray;
Joan Brown and husband Ray; and a proud and loving grandmother, affectionately known as
"Nana," to her two grandchildren, Austin Clay Swafford and Macee Jo Swafford.
Shirley was a part-owner of Swafford's Furniture in Manchester, Kentucky, where she spent 42 years dedicated to the family business. Some of her most treasured memories were made raising her two boys, tending to her garden on East 80, working on puzzles, reading her favorite books, and spending every single weekend with her grandchildren during their younger years.
She was also well known for insisting she "couldn't stand" her dog, Copper, even though it was clear she secretly adored him.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joe Levi Swafford; her son, Walter Craig Swafford; her sister, Helen "Sis" Cobb Lewis; her nephew, Clay McKnight; sister-in-law Joyce Mills Cobb; and her parents, Oakley B. Cobb and Velma.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to Peggy and Buster Brown, lifelong friends of Shirley and Joe, for their unwavering love and support over the years. Whether bringing food, sitting down to complete a puzzle or two, or simply stopping by for an hour of companionship, the Browns were instrumental in Shirley's life and will always be deeply appreciated.
Shirley left this world with a hope of everlasting comfort for her family and with joyful anticipation of being reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Joe, and her cherished son, Craig, who always knew how to light up a room.
Graveside services for Shirley Faye (Cobb) Swafford will be conducted Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 12 NOON at Cumberland Memorial Gardens with Anthony Lovett officiating. There will be no visitation. London Funeral Home is charge of all arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
